Professional Coaching Practice & Philosophy:
Course Overview:
The coach’s role in sport goes far beyond teaching players and athletes how to play the game. They are influential role players and should model the behavior of the person they wish their athletes would become. Coaches need to understand their role in the life of the players and athletes on multiple levels of their being.
This does not come naturally for many coaches, and they need to learn and work on these skills to master them actively. The range of teaching skills and methods they will use is determined by the situation and group of players they coach.
The course will provide you insight into your responsibility as a coach and how to maximize your impact. It will also provide you with an overview of all the role players in setting up a successful coaching team or department at your school or club.

Coaches with the support of parents need to understand the long-term athletic development components at play with youth athletes and players to best determine a strategy. Understanding both the physical and psychological stages that occur, accompanied by the behavioral changes, will help coaches and parents choose the right development path.
Each developmental stage has its associated phase of athletic development. As a coach, you need to know how to maximize all of these. Understanding these different stages of development gives you the tools to plan and enhance your players and teams to reach their potential.
